Martyne Backman and Jan Schuh of Companion Care

Albuquerque Business First recognized the 2016 Fastest Growing Companies in Albuquerque on August 12th, at a tribute and luncheon at the Hotel Albuquerque. This recognition of Companion Care’s growth over the last three years acknowledges that we have accepted the challenges created in our recessionary economy. We were one of only two healthcare companies among the 29 honorees.

Companion Care has successfully communicated to the marketplace that all in-home care services are not the same. Because we offer a more personalized care approach to our clients, our word-of-mouth brings us a steady influx of seniors who appreciate the benefits that we offer. As described by one of the event sponsors, Jeremy Oswald, SVP of Bank of Albuquerque, “Teams that establish and model a consistent culture make choices that contribute to long-term results rather than short-term profits.” This speaks to the guidance of our founder and CEO, gerontologist Jan Schuh, who hires and trains her staff to focus on what is good for the client and as well as the caregivers.

“Fast-growers know that profits and cash flow work together but are distinctly different,” continues Oswald. Sales are applauded, but are only a part of the ongoing cycle of business. When working with an often fragile group of elders, most of whom have changing care needs, empathy and patience are as important as being able to monitor health and environmental conditions.

Event sponsor Steve Keene of Moss Adams acknowledged that all honorees have several key characteristics in common:

  • Talent – our business makes a significant investment in recruiting, hiring, and retaining experienced and caring individuals.
  • Resilience – we have persevered for over 12 years despite economic challenges in recent years.
  • Client focus – we recognize that simply delivering a service is not enough – it’s about connecting with people and meeting their needs in unexpected ways.
  • Collaboration – we have grown in revenue by 27% in the past three years as a result of our involvement and contributions to the community and to our referral partners, we’re all growing and becoming stronger together.

The success of Companion Care is a testament to the talents, resilience, client focus, and collaboration between our care managers, office staff, caregivers, and owners.
